I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road safety issues (Speeding), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. π¦ Community Speedwatch β Making Roads Safer Kent Police runs Community Speedwatch, a volunteer-led initiative focused on reducing speeding and improving safety. What is Speedwatch? π₯ Local volunteers, trained by Kent Police, monitor speeds at approved sites (20, 30, or 40 mph zones) using certified equipment. π Details of speeding vehicles are securely logged for 12 months. Repeat or excessive offenders may receive advisory lettersβand in some cases, personal visits from officers. Important: Speedwatch is educational, not enforcement. No fines or penalty points are issued directly, but the data helps target police action and inform road safety improvements. β
Does it work? Yes! Over 90% of drivers recorded speeding once are not seen again within 12 months, and overall speeding reduces in communities over time. π Want to help? If you can spare an hour a week, join us! π www.kent.police.uk/speedwatch On Thursday 21st May 2026, Kent Police carried out a joint operation with the Roads Safety Unit following multiple reports of speeding along Pelham Road and Overcliffe, Gravesend.
Concerns had been raised by residents, particularly regarding vehicles speeding in areas near local schools. In response, officers conducted targeted speed enforcement checks throughout the day, alongside addressing other motoring offences.
As a result of this operation, more than 15 tickets were issued. A number of other motorists were also stopped and given words of advice around safe and responsible driving.
We would like to thank the community for reporting these concerns. Road safety remains a priority, and we will continue to take action where issues are identified.
If you have ongoing concerns in your area, please continue to report them to us.
This account is not monitored 24/7 and is not a platform to report crimes where you are a victim or a crime has occurred. This should be reported on 999 if happening at the time or 101/Kent police website to report any other crimes. Any nuisance/ anti social behaviour or intel around drug dealing then you can pass to me on this platform.
Thank you
